Most pre-K Spanish programs are simply English materials translated into Spanish.

Spanish follows a logical progression: vowels, frequent consonants, syllables, then words. English-based programs ignore this sequence, failing to teach Spanish naturally.

¡Comienzo a aprender! was developed entirely in Spanish, with a scope and sequence tailored to the way Spanish foundational skills are learned. New skills are taught explicitly, and previous skills are systematically revisited, following a research-based approach that builds both confidence and competence from the very beginning.
The program’s philosophy is practical, not just theoretical. From the first weeks, students hold real books, decode real words, and experience what it means to be a reader, building confidence and engagement from the start.
A continuous learning progression
¡Comienzo a aprender! includes six copies of each book, with every title building on the last and creating a clear, step-by-step progression.
Serie 1 • Semanas 1–14
Libros de sonidos
20 titles introduce each letter and sound individually, beginning with the five vowels and progressing through the most frequent consonants in Spanish.
Serie 2 • Semanas 15–28
Libros de palabras
40 titles combine those sounds into syllables and real words, with teacher support provided at each stage.
Serie 3 • Semanas 29–33
Libros decodificables
10 titles that bring all skills together, allowing students to read connected, decodable texts using only the sounds, syllables, and words introduced earlier.
29 poems: A story for every sound
A story for every sound.
Each of the 27 letters and two digraphs is introduced with its own poem, each a brief story built from words that begin with that sound. Alisa chases an ardilla nibbling avellanas. Blas and Pablo hunt bugs under the banca. Tita the tortoise swims while her friends cheer. These poems go beyond simple word lists, offering stories that children want to revisit.
During weeks 1 to 14, each poem introduces a new letter. In weeks 15 to 29, the poems are revisited to help students identify words, notice rhymes, make connections, and strengthen oral language.
